About Green Nurse Practitioner Clinic
What is a Nurse Practitioner?
-
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with advanced education, skills and experience who provides personalized, quality healthcare to the people of Ontario.
-
As Registered Nurses in the Extended Class [RN (EC)], they are regulated by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
-
Only nurses who are registered in the Extended Class can refer to themselves as Nurse Practitioners.
-
Maintaining registration in the Extended Class requires ongoing education, training and complying with a high level quality assurance program.
-
Nurse Practitioners have an average of 8 years of advanced clinical education and clinical training.
What does a Nurse Practitioner do?
NPs have the competency to diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe all medications, and perform medical procedures. They work with individuals and families to manage illness or chronic conditions, prevent illness through health screening, and promote wellness through education and community resources. In essence, NPs bring together the medical knowledge needed to diagnose and treat illnesses with the values and skills of nursing.

Maryanne Green
Owner/ Nurse Practitioner
Maryanne Green, BScN, MN-NP is a Registered Nurse Practitioner with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

She completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Queen's University in 2007 and went on to complete her Master of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner in 2015.

Maryanne spent the majority of her nursing career in Critical Care teams, before starting her Nurse Practitioner career in the Emergency Department. Maryanne also has extensive experience working with in-patient geriatric clients. Having worked with medical teams in both in-patient and out-patient care, Maryanne sees first-hand the impact that lack of access to health care services is having on Ontarians.

The number of NPs not working to their full potential is alarming, especially given the crisis with access to health care in Ontario. It's heartbreaking to see the number of patients coming to the ER with conditions that could have been managed prior to them becoming a life-threatening problem; or for patients with complex medical conditions having no access to primary care follow-up after discharge from hospital. The evidence is overwhelming that Ontarians need better access to care. With over a decade of mentorship from an amazing group of physicians, Maryanne is well prepared to support an NP led clinic.
"I started this journey to open a Nurse Practitioner clinic in 2023 because I see so many local Nurse Practitioners who are capable and willing to take on patients as their general practitioner, yet no local clinic to allow these dedicated professionals to establish care for their patients. I reached out to the Ministry of Health of Ontario, our MPP, and the City of Kingston to ask for funding for this clinic. As the Ministry continues to deny Nurse Practitioners reasonable access to public funds I have made the difficult decision to move forward with a membership based clinic. I would like to strongly emphasize my intention to utilize our local NP population to promote better access to health care services for everyone; in such, I have established GreenNPC as a social enterprise that maintains a mission to be able to provide services to marginalized and vulnerable populations."
